David Basketball Camp is tentatively scheduled to be held tomorrow in Male’ if weather permits.

Mohamed “David” Hashim told Alfresco news that the “basketball festival” is a warm-up to their ultimate event, a basketball competition planned for two weeks later.

David is a basketball enthusiast who took up the Youth Development Program from 2005-2008. He is currently a Level 3 coach involved in private coaching.

He started privately coaching after facing insufficient space at the indoor stadium due to a high demand by children who wanted to take up the sport. Hence, like the Basketball Association of Maldives, David started conducting training 6 days a week.

He now has a registered 120 children with 85 children regularly turning up for practice. Charging a monthly fee of only Rf150 per child, David has his hands full with 20-30 children undergoing training at any given one-hour coaching session.

He says his aim is to “widen involvement” and make it as much as possible for each child who loves basketball to get proper professional training in the sport.

David’s training sessions have become so reputed now that many children are now in a “waiting list” to get enlisted under him.
